
With thousands of lobsters being shipped from here annually, the area has been recognized as the Lobster Capital of the World.
Currently in its 61st year, the area’s world-famous Maine Lobster Festival is an event in which patrons can experience lobstermen at work – pulling their traps, as they have done for more than a century, in their unique and colorful wooden lobster boats.
Overlooking the head of the salt-water section of the St. George River is the charming village of Thomaston. Seven of the 10 millionaires in the nation graced the streets of Thomaston in 1840, and today, the homes still stand proudly. Antique shops, fine art and gourmet cuisine can be found in the historic downtown center.
