Billerica Colonial Minuteman (978-667-5459), formed by proclamation of the Board of Selectmen to per-petuate the memory of the original Colonial Minutemen of 1775, promotes, encourages, and maintains patriotic, historic, and educational interest at all levels of government. Billerica Cultural Council (978-667- 1009), provides grants which support activities ranging from concerts and exhibitions, to field trips for school children, after school youth programs, town festivals, and much more. Billerica Garden Club (978-663-3610), with representatives on committees including Adopt An island and Home for the Holidays, brings information and classes to the community at large while also helping to bring a sense of color and beauty to the Billerica environment. Billerica Lions Club (978-667-8654), conducts various projects that benefit local individuals and organizations, including providing glasses for the needy, supporting the Library with large print books and descriptive videos, computers for the visually impaired, supporting the DARE program, conducting Health Fair and kindergarten eye screenings, and providing visual aid equipment to residents. Billerica Lodge of Elks (978-667-9525), provides free hall rental to local non-profit group events, hosts Santa and friends visiting the Billerica neighborhoods on the annual tree lighting weekend, sponsors the annual health fair and much more. Billerica Museum, headquartered on Boston Road in the Howe School, Billerica’s first high school, is in the process of being renovated with a mix of town funds and a huge town-wide fundraising effort. Its doors are scheduled to open to the public in time for Billerica's 350th Anniversary celebration in the year 2005, as a facility that will provide educational programs and moving exhibits related to Billerica's history. Billerica Rotary (978-256-6989), is an organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service (e.g. supporting local food pantry), develop leadership skills (junior Rotarian of the Month), and more. It meets weekly at the Wyndham Billerica on Concord Road. Billerica Sons of Italy (978-667-2847), preserves, nurtures and promotes Italian and Italian-American culture, supports disaster relief projects (including providing food baskets and assistance to those affected by the 9/11 tragedy), and much more. Greater Lowell Community Foundation works with individuals, families, nonprofit organizations, and corporations to create permanent endowments to provide scholarships to high school students, competitive grants to strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofit groups, and endowment distributions supporting charities recommended by donors. The Billerica Plan, started in 1987 by a group of local business people in an effort to improve the image and general quality of life, is a non-profit partnership between businesses, government, and the community.
