Ames Manufacturing Company (now Ames Privilege), established in 1829, produced bronze and brass cannons. It gained worldwide recognition when it cast the first set of bronze doors for the Senate wing of the nations Capitol in 1868. Also cast at the Ames Foundry were the Ben Franklin Memorial on the Boston Common, the Dewitt Clinton statue in New York City, the "Washington on Horseback" in New York and in Boston, and the world famous "Minuteman" statue in Concord. The former mill building houses a mix of apartments and office space, and is a fine example of the reuse of obsolete industrial space.
