The
regions central location is a prime asset. Routes 495, 195, and
24 provide easy access to major markets. Restoration of rail passenger
service to Boston and the relocation of Route 44 between Carver and
Plymouth will make a good location even better. Several commercial bus
lines further link Cranberry Country cities to various locations throughout
New England.
Each of the regions nine communities offer ready
access to a municipal airport and commuter rail. Throughout Cranberry
Country, an overwhelming majority of workers handle their commute by
driving themselves to their place of employment. Most spend less than
30 minutes on the road to reach their destinations.

Naturally
Cranberry Countrys rich history provides a picturesque backdrop
of home styles, from Italianate to Greek Revival. Many of the homes
fall into one of two categories reports the most recent U.S. Census
figures: built between 1970 1979 or before 1939. And in towns
where neighbors enjoy greeting each other over the backyard fence, these
residents become symbols of the idyllic American Dream.
But
residents also appreciate these homes affordability. In each town,
a large majority of house are owner occupied, with median values that
other New England cities envy. For instance, the median value in Wareham
is $121,200; in Bridewater, $163,500; $158,100 in Raynham; and $141,800
in Carver. Residential building permits have more than doubled in several
towns in a four-year period.

Visitors
to Cranberry Country are often attracted by Ocean Sprays Cranberry
World West national presence. They stay for the remarkable experiences
Mother Nature offers in the area:
Bridgewater:
Chaffee Farms offers 295 acres of cross-country skiing, hiking, horseback
riding, hunting, nature observing and snowmobiling. The Bridgewater
State lands add picnicking, ice skating, motor boating, tennis and swimming
to that list.
Carver: Edaville Railroads 1,080 acres provide
opportunity for fresh-water fishing and picnicking while the 600 acres
at Great Cedar Swamp cater to those who like to add four-wheeling and
walking/jogging to their activities. Shady Acres Campground and Pinewood
Way Camping offer camping and golf facilities.
Halifax: Area residents take advantage of Halifax Country
Clubs fine golf and tennis facilities, as well as the Peterson
Swamp nature activities.
Lakeville: Hiking, horseback riding and fresh-water
fishing are on the menu at Assawompsett Pond, Quitticas Ponds and Assonet
Cedar Swamp.
Middleborough:
With 2,954 acres Rocky Gutter W.M.A. offers the largest fresh-water
fishing, hiking, hunting and nature observation location in the region.
Plymouth Rock KOA offers great camping facilities.
Plympton: In addition to the nature activities enjoyed
throughout the region, Plympton also offers target archery at its Upland
Sportsmans Club.
Raynham: Here 1,124 acres of land are devoted to outdoor
pursuits.
Rochester: Exercise lovers seek the bicycle paths and
nature walks ribboning New Bedford Lands 804 acres.
Wareham: Families flock to the Maple Park Family Camp
(500 acres), Onset Fire District (310 acres), White Island Pond (292
acres) and the Tihonnet Trout Club (200 acres) where they can enjoy
everything from non-motor and motor boating to hunting, camping, swimming
and hiking.

Pride
in our heritage is a common thread in Cranberry Country and as
such, citizens band together to host
numerous unique festivals, parades and holiday presentations throughout
the year. A trip to Robbins Museum of Archaeology in Middleborough always
fascinates visitors age 8 to 80.
Learning, also, is an ongoing emphasis in this region.
Each town supports its own library system, with a grand total of 335,442
holdings among the branches.

The
regions school system provides excellent opportunities for our
children. In recent years, the municipal government has made education
a top priority, investing in the physical plant as well as the educational
process. We have several public elementary schools, public high schools,
parochial elementary schools, and private schools to complete the academic
picture. Our region offers unlimited educational opportunities. From
advanced technology to the arts and music appreciation, the possibilities
are endless.
Area colleges include Bridgewater State College, Bay
State Community College, Stonehill College, Massasoit Community College,
Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
