

Opportunities for enjoyment and enrichment are available through a multitude of entertainment venues, cultural programs, sporting events and fine arts performances and exhibits. The Bay City Independents Base Ball Club provides tours of what baseball was like in the 19th century and even plays real games.
The Bay Arts Council is a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the arts in Bay County. The Council collaborates with the community to offer such events as the Wednesdays in the Park, Young Peoples’ Summer, Hell’s Half Mile and the Thursday Night Series.
Area amusement parks provide plenty of family fun. Deer Acres Storybook Amusement Park is a nursery rhyme-themed children’s park and petting zoo complete with rides, a gift shop, an arcade and more.
There is no shortage of art in the Bay Area, and many galleries and studios showcase a diversity of styles, mediums and subjects both locally created and from around the world. On the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, the Marshall Fredericks Museum displays over 200 sculptures by the late Marshall Fredericks, along with original tools and equipment from his studio. Temporary exhibits are held throughout the year, and an outdoor sculpture garden is maintained on the campus. Studio 23/The Art Center hosts many exhibits throughout the year celebrating different mediums and cultures, and it also offers classes and workshops.
The performing arts are alive and well in the Bay Area with many opportunities for enrichment and fun. Michigan’s oldest community theatre group, the Bay City Players, provides quality community theatre to the area. Live musical entertainment can be found via the Bay Chorale and Bay Concert Band, while the State Theatre of Bay City is a 600-seat-capacity venue presenting everything from movies to musical performances. Those looking for a taste of 20th century European and American dance and concert music can visit the Bijou Orchestra, whose talented members delight, audiences with a variety of music from the early 1900s as well as swing, bluegrass and jazz.
