Parks and Recreation

With plenty of parks to enjoy, the Clarkston area has many recreational and entertainment attractions. County, township, city and metro parks provide a variety of bike paths, hiking, boating and swimming opportunities.

Clintonwood Park includes one of the first Sprayparks (interactive fountain/water area for children) in our county. Built through community fundraising and managed by Independence Township Parks & Recreation, the park provides children of all ages a fun, wet way to spend a hot summer day.

Adult recreational opportunities include: Waterford Hills Road Racing, Pine Knob Ski Resort, and a number of golf courses including Shepherd’s Hollow, Pine Knob Golf, Oakhurst Golf & Country Club and Fountains Golf Course. Oakland Sportsman’s Club is also located in the Clarkston area.

Clarkston is known by the parades it has, hosting one of the few July 4th parades still offered in Oakland County. Other parades include a solemn Memorial Day procession to Lakeview Cemetery; Labor Day Parade and December Holiday Lights Parade.

Taste of Clarkston, a partnered project with the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce, Independence Township Parks & Recreation and City of the Village of Clarkston, closes Main Street on the third Sunday in September and brings in over 30 area restaurants, live entertainment and free KidZone activity area. A family friendly event, there is free shuttle parking from nearby school parking lots.
