A merger of Iron County General Hospital and Crystal Falls Community Hospital in 1996 brought upon the creation of the Iron County Community Hospital. The 31-bed hospital is staffed by nearly 260 employees and offers a wealth of high quality medical services including cardiac rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, home health care, 24-hour emergency services, laboratory, outpatient oncology, surgery and endoscopy and physical, occupational and speech therapy. This critical access hospital annually records approximately 9,000 Emergency Room visits, 4,700 outpatient visits and 1,300 inpatient admissions.
The hospital is currently undergoing a major renovation process. The first phase added an additional surgical suite, expanded the X-ray and imaging department, remodeled the corridors and added a central storage unit. The next phase will expand the ambulatory care area and include a new emergency room and clinic space for visiting specialists and outpatient services. The third and final phase of this massive renovation project will include the construction of administrative and medical records offices, as well as the redesigning of the former obstetrics area. The nearly $10 million renovation project is slated for completion by 2010.
Affiliated facilities include the Crystal Falls Family Health Center – offering physician clinics, dialysis, laboratory, radiology, diabetes education and physical and occupational therapy – the Ice Lake Physician Clinic, the Genesee Street Physician and Rehabilitation Clinic and United Home Care and Diabetes Education.
Additional healthcare services can be accessed through a number of private practices throughout the county, plus the 200-bed Iron County Medical Care Facility, Falls Clinic in Crystal Falls, the Iron County Internal Medicine-Hilltop Clinic and the Marquette Medical Clinic in Iron River.
