Customer
service is the highlight of shopping in the Mason area. Businesses from
the small shop, one-person owner to the large corporate retail centers
offer you the attention you expect. Mason's downtown historic district
shopping area highlighted by the historic Ingham County Courthouse are
all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mason Antiques
District is a regional shopping attraction. Other shopping opportunities
in the City and the surrounding townships offer a large variety of products

The
City of Mason and the surrounding townships offer a variety of settings
and opportunities for fun and enjoyment. Six parks in the City offer
tennis courts, ball parks and picnicking facilities. Township parks
offer ball parks, cross-country skiing, canoe rental, swimming and picnicking.
Private recreation opportunities include stock car racing, three golf
courses, a bowling center, Volley ball courts, trap shooting grounds
and adventure parks with water slides, miniature golf, batting cages,
go-carts and video games. Mason is also the home of the annual Ingham
County Fair and the Michigan Steam Engine and Threshers Club Annual
Reunion.

The Mason Area Historical Society owns and operates
the Mason Area Historical Museum, a center of community history. The
Museum hosts several events during the year. The Mason Orchestral Society
performs many free concerts during the year including an outdoor concert
in the spring on the Courthouse Square in downtown Mason. Community
and school theater groups offer a variety of musical, comedy and dramatic
performances throughout the year. Vocal music is presented by community,
church and school choirs several times during the year.

The Mason Public School system is strongly supported
by the community as demonstrated by a recent $30 million investment
to upgrade learning facilities and bring state-of-the-art technology
into classrooms. The school district offers innovative instructional
programs, many extracurricular activities, several community services
and learning opportunities for students at four elementary schools,
a middle school for grades 6-8 and a high school. The total student
enrollment is approximately 3,500. Opportunities for higher education
are available from Lansing Community College, Michigan State University,
Davenport Business College and Cooley Law School all within 12 miles
of Mason.
