The Twin Cities have many community-sponsored events throughout the year for residents and guests to enjoy.

The Plainwell Island City Festival held the last full weekend in July has been in existence for over 20 years. The festival offers many activities including children’s activities, musical events, a craft show in the park and a parade through downtown. Plainwell also hosts a 4th of July celebration at the Plainwell Airport. This event includes music and fireworks at the end of the evening. The annual Holiday Parade through downtown Plainwell is held on the first Saturday in December and kicks off the Holiday season.

Each summer the Plainwell Music Society hosts a summer concert series. This series starts in May and ends in early August. The concerts are held at the band shell every Wednesday and are free to the public.

Otsego hosts the annual Creative Arts Festival each year on the fourth Saturday of September, which includes a parade, car show, entertainment such as live music and dance performances by many area groups, children’s games and activities and an arts and crafts show. Otsego’s Holiday Parade is held on the first Friday of December, and like Plainwell, this kicks off Otsego’s Holiday season. The Otsego Community Band performs many concerts each year and there are many community sponsored musical events.

A riverwalk has recently been established in both Otsego and Plainwell for guests and residents to enjoy the areas’ beautiful natural scenery.

Plainwell and Otsego both have excellent libraries with materials for all ages. Plainwell’s Charles A. Ransom District Library, and the Otsego Public Library offer special programs for adults and children alike, including summer reading programs, reading clubs and discussions.

The Otsego Community Center and Scout House is home to many groups, including the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops of Otsego, The Button Club, and the Rebekah Women. The building is also home to the senior drop-in center. The building, which seats approximately 100 people, can be rented out when not in use by one of the above groups. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a gas fireplace and is handicap accessible.

The Plainwell Community Center is a three-floor facility that is used for many community organization meetings and is home to the Plainwell Teen Center. This building can be rented for banquets and other events.
