Otsego Public Schools has three elementary school buildings; Allegan Street Elementary, Dix Street Elementary and Alamo Elementary. There is one middle school facility, and one high school. Area parochial schools include St. Margaret (Catholic), which offers Kindergarten through eighth grades, Peace Lutheran (Wisconsin Synod), offering Preschool through eighth grades, and Otsego Baptist Academy. A Before and After School (BASE) program is offered for Otsego public school students in grades K-5. Otsego also offers community school programs including Adult High School completion, an adult enrichment program that includes classes designed to allow Otsego adults and youth to pursue new hobbies and interests. Plainwell Public Schools have three elementary school buildings; Starr Elementary, Gilkey Elementary and Cooper Elementary. Plainwell has one middle school and one high school. Plainwell also offers a program for before and after school (SAFE) for students in grades 1-5. Community education programs are also offered. These include adult classes, leisure time activities, and recreational opportunities. Both Otsego and Plainwell offer award-winning programs in instrumental and vocal music, as well as athletic activities that include football, basketball, tennis, golf, swimming, cheerleading and more.
Both school districts
have pools. The rivalry between the Otsego and Plainwell football teams
is the oldest in the state, and the annual competition between the two
teams always draws quite a crowd! The Allegan County Tech-Ed Center, located in Allegan, is 10 miles from the Twin Cities area, and offers classes for high school students in areas of vocational and technical education, preparing them for employment in the trades. Classes are also available for continuing education for adults. For higher education and continuing education, there are many colleges and technical centers close by. Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, Davenport University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College are all 15 miles from the Twin Cities area, as is the State Technical Institute and Rehab Center.
