The Forest Lake Area School District encompasses more than 240 square miles. Approximately 7,050 K-12 students are enrolled in the district’s eight elementary, two junior high, senior high and Central Learning Center facilities. Of the approximately 550 teachers on staff, more than half have earned master’s degrees. Excellent teachers, challenging curriculum, up-to-date technology, high standards and a safe, caring learning environment support the academic efforts of students. Award-winning co-curricular and extracurricular activities, as well as a full range of special education programming and student health services, enhance the school district’s strong, traditional academic program. Five district schools have been recognized as "Minnesota Schools of Excellence." These are Columbus, Forest Lake, Forest View, Linwood and Scandia elementary schools. The area also offers two charter schools and one parochial school: North Lakes Charter Academy, Lakes International Language Academy and St. Peter’s Catholic School.
