Lake
City has a very active Economic Development Authority with a full-time
Director to assist our industrial interests and development. Our manufacturing
and industry are thriving, employing over 2500 workers, which supports
our strong local economy. Currently, there are opportunities for development
and growth available throughout the Lake City area.
There are many incentives for development in Lake City.
These could include tax increment financing, industrial revenue bonds,
employee and management training, revolving loan funds, challenge grant
loan program, Minnesota Investment Fund and SBA financing. Companies
such as Heat-N-Glo Fireplace Products, Pepin Heights Orchards, Pepin
Manufacturing, Bud Meyer Truck Lines, Inc., Valley Craft, Inc. and others
have utilitized not only local resources but regional, state and federal
resources and incentives as well. The City and the EDA have been successful
in partnering with organizations in packaging programs and gaining public
acceptance for many companies.
Lake
City has a very stable and diverse economic background with companies
offering such products and services as sleeves and pistons, interstate
trucking, fireplace products, materials handling/metal fabrication,
wildlife arts and gifts, flour mill, wind tunnels, printing, polyurethane,
recycling of pallets,and apple orchards. The Lake City area orchards
produce 25 percent of the apples grown in Minnesota annually, and is
the nations largest producer of the most popular apple grown in
Minnesota, the Haralson.

Lake
City boasts excellent health care facilities and options for its residents.
The Lake City Medical Center - part of Mayo Health Systems - provides
clinic, hospital and nursing home care on a single campus which enhances
the continuum of care concept. With a newly constructed clinic and new
18-bed hospital under construction, area residents receive the highest
quality health care, including Emergency Room and Urgent Care, in a
warm, caring environment.
Lake City is home to another nursing home, several dental
practices, chiropractors and optometrists to provide life-long care
for the entire family.

A relaxed river town with 4500 residents, it is located
on the Mississippi River, 65 miles southeast of the Twin Cities. Situated
among the beautiful scenic river bluffs, Lake City rests on the western
shores of Lake Pepin, the widest spot on the Mississippi River.
