Business is booming in the suburbs, thanks in part to the dynamic efforts of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber’s 350 members include businesses, non-profit groups, and representatives of local and county government. Working together for 27 years, they have brought new growth and vitality to their 12 member communities.

In addition to assisting new and existing businesses, the Chamber takes a proactive stance in legislative matters. One major accomplishment was working with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce to reduce the commercial/industrial tax rate. On a national level, the suburban Chamber worked with the US Chamber of Commerce to enact legislation that would limit businesses’ liability for Y2K problems.

Major employers in the northeast suburbs include Land O’ Lakes, which has its corporate headquarters here; Hewlett-Packard; and the 3M Company, which employs 12,000 people at its Maplewood facility. Mounds View also has its own 90-acre Business Park.
