Northeast Minneapolis is made up of 13 distinct neighborhoods, each with an individual history and personality. The Sheridan and St. Anthony West neighborhoods, both along the river, are among the most historic in the city of Minneapolis. These neighborhoods are characterized by the area’s oldest buildings and homes. Marshall Street slices through this area to reveal landmarks, like historic private residences and the majestic Grainbelt Brewery complex, now housing
RSP Architects and Bottineau Library.

As you move away from the river, you’ll find neighborhoods made of newer houses and buildings. University and Central Avenues mark the progression Northeast has made through the years, like the rings of a tree trunk. As you drive north, through neighborhoods such as Logan Park, Windom Park, and Waite Park, you'll find less brick, more concrete and steel. In the Holland and Audubon Park neighborhoods, Central Avenue is a modern-day villa of trendy and ethnic businesses, each housed inside a modern, mid-twentieth century era building. As you keep moving north until you’re toeing the boundary of Minneapolis, you will find a sprawling, green park at the edge of Minneapolis in the Columbia Park Neighborhood.
