We are continually welcoming new businesses to our city. In recent years, the most impressive gain was the decision of Best Buy to locate their world headquarters campus at Penn Avenue and I-494; thus becoming the largest employer in Richfield. This past year we welcomed Target stores and The Home Depot to our list of major employers.
While we quote numbers for the large employers, the smaller long-term local businesses continue to be the lifeblood of the community, as do the specialty businesses that populate our shopping centers. Richfield businesses and professionals employ in excess of 16,000 people and pay wages into the community of well over $200 million. They also support the community with almost $20 million in property taxes each year and are essential to the economic well-being of our community.
