As 2007 chair of the Board, I look forward to working with members to continue to build on your Chamber’s mission of being the bold voice of business for the Saint Paul/East Metro area.
While a change in leadership is occurring this year at your Chamber, everything is on track for continued success. A solid business plan is in place—many successful programs and services will remain, and new initiatives have been added to better serve and represent our members.
In the area of public policy and advocacy, your Chamber will continue to place a high priority on building and maintaining strong relationships with elected leaders at all levels of government. Your Chamber will also continue to advocate for its number one priority—LRT in the Central Corridor. Plans are also in place to develop an East Metro coalition of local and state elected officials and Chambers of Commerce to advocate together for regional equity in state transportation investment.
2007 will also be a very important election year in the Saint Paul/East Metro area. Several city council seats are up for re-election, including two in Maplewood and all seven in Saint Paul. Your Chamber’s Political Action Committee will work to support pro-business candidates in these races.
Your Chamber also has several initiatives planned to enhance its visibility and service to members in its suburban service area. It will also continue to provide top-notch programming, economic development assistance and educational support through the work of its Charitable Foundation.
This thoughtful planning will ensure that your Chamber continues to grow and even more effectively serve its members—and the continued focus on independently serving and building the local community will undoubtedly result in a stronger region and state.
I am honored and excited to be chair of your Chamber’s Board of Directors this year, and look forward to working with members. Join me in thanking Dan Foote for his leadership as chair of the Board in 2006.
Sincerely,
Ted H. Lillie
