White Bear
Lake's close proximity to the Twin Cities also allows businesses, visitors
and residents to take advantage of three major rail lines and 16 smaller
freight lines, four major ports, an international airport and six reliever
airports. People and products move in and out of the city via water, rail,
truck and air on a daily basis. Lake Area Bus transports folks between stops in Mahtomedi, Birchwood, White Bear Township, Vadnais Heights, and the City of White Bear Lake. During morning and evening commuter hours, the bus line also connects with Metro Transit buses at Maplewood Mall. For seniors and handicapped citizens, the Lionmobile and the Metro Mobility program are available for transportation around the area and into the Twin Cities. The area is also serviced by the Soo Line and Burlington Northern Railroads, which carry passengers and freight to cities across the country. Those seeking the convenience of flying are a 20-minute drive to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Hubert H. Humphrey Terminal for charter flights. One of the busiest airports in the United States, Minneapolis-St. Paul International serves more than 30 million passengers annually, with flights departing for 175 domestic airports and 23 international destinations.
