Three higher education facilities are accessible to students in Winona, including Winona State University, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical.

Winona State University

Standing as a nationally recognized pioneer in technological advancements through its extensive curriculum, Winona State University (WSU) offers exceptional four-year education to students from all over the world. Nearly 8,200 enrolled students take advantage of approximately 80 undergraduate, pre-professional, licensure and graduate degree programs on two campuses in Winona and a third in Rochester.

The institution has come a long way since its founding in 1858. WSU became one of the first “laptop universities” in the country and has recently earned a spot on U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges 2010” edition, ranking among the top 50 public and private universities in the Midwest.

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (SMU) is a private, Lasallian Catholic institution enrolling more than 5,400 students on five campuses around the world—including the 400-acre Winona campus. Students are afforded numerous undergraduate, graduate and professional degree programs in a variety of academic areas. Between Winona and the Twin Cities campuses, SMU offers one of the largest graduate schools — the school of Graduate and Professional Programs — in the state.

This distinguished university has earned much recognition over the years, and has been listed among Forbes.com’s America’s Best Colleges 2009, Princeton Review’s Best Midwestern Colleges 2010 and U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges 2010.

Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical

Affording both technical education and training, Minnesota State College- Southeast Technical awards Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees, as well as diplomas and certificates. Students choose from more than 80 academic programs in six major career fields: business and office, health and human services, sales and management, musical instrument report, technical and trade and industrial. The college’s programs are designed to allow students to enter the workforce or advance to a four-year educational institution.
