On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation, Inc. (EDF), I am pleased to welcome you to our community. Whether visiting for a short time or establishing a residency, you will see that Oxford has many amenities and features that truly define it — in John Grisham’s words — as “The Jewel of the South.”
The Lafayette-Oxford-University community has much to be proud of. Our economy has been on a fast-paced growth track for the last decade. Job creation and new investment in our community has far surpassed the state and the U. S. in the rate of job growth. The value of all property in Lafayette County has more than doubled during the period of 2000-2007. Gross sales in the county have risen by more than 50% per year since 2000.
Our reputation as being an outstanding place to invest and start a business has served to enhance our attractiveness to the outside world. The University of Mississippi continues to bring world acclaim to our state and the Oxford area through its many academic offerings, research and sporting events. Activities of all kinds involving sports, the arts, educational opportunities and alumni nostalgia in our attractive community continue to lure visitors, retirees and alumni from across the country. Visitors have sought out Oxford on the weekends just to experience our downtown restaurants and view the magic of our historic Downtown Square. Festivals, conferences and business meetings in Oxford continue to lure visitors from the region and throughout the state.
Whether a visitor or newcomer, you will find Oxford-Lafayette County a wonderful place to live, work or just visit. We hope that your time here is a pleasant and rewarding one!
Sincerely,
Bob Collier
2007-2009 Chairman of the Board
