On behalf of the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation, welcome to Oxford, Lafayette County and the University of Mississippi. As a lifelong resident of this community and a graduate of the University of Mississippi, I know firsthand the many facets of this place that make it so very special. Through the years, countless individuals have found it to be a wonderful place to live, work and obtain an education. Visitors are greeted by friendly people who pride themselves on assuring an experience that will exceed expectations.
In recent years, Oxford has received national attention as a top retirement destination. From Ole Miss alums to those visiting for the very first time, many individuals choose Oxford as the perfect place to enjoy retirement. Many of the attractions that appeal to retirees also bring visitors to our community. A diverse group of artisans and writers call Oxford home. People from all over the world come to visit the home of William Faulkner. The Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts affords visitors and locals the opportunity to enjoy the performing arts. Other opportunities for adults and children to experience visual and performing arts are provided by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council along with the University Museums. In addition to the many cultural events, the University hosts a myriad of sporting events for the sports enthusiast.
Our downtown Square is a vibrant shopping mecca with a variety of boutiques, specialty shops, galleries and a nationally acclaimed bookstore. In addition to the shops, the restaurants and music venues located on the Square provide dining options that are outstanding. Additional shopping and restaurants can be found in the outlying areas that are just a short distance from the Square.
The business and industrial environment in the Lafayette County, Oxford and University community (L-O-U) is robust and welcoming. Existing industries and new businesses are often drawn to this location. With top-ranked public school systems and access to an outstanding university, companies find this an excellent place to locate. We are fortunate to have a community committed to state-of-the-art medical facilities along with outstanding physicians practicing in many specialties. Growth in the community is overseen by diligent leaders in our local government, who maintain the history and charm while having a vision for the future.
