Business in Vicksburg
The diversity of businesses in Warren County has always provided a stability that our residents can count on. Its close proximity to the Mississippi River has been the key to Warren County’s successful economy. The Port of Vicksburg is home to 21 businesses and industries and over 4,000 employees. Many goods pass through this port including metals, wood, chemicals, soybeans, corn, wheat and cotton. It is a designated Foreign Trade Zone. Recently, the construction of the southeast’s largest ethanol plant began at the Port.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the largest employer in the area, provides jobs for nearly 2,000 people. They work at the Mississippi River Commission, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District Office or the Engineering and Research Development Center (ERDC). These vital organizations are responsible for the maintenance of the waterways in our nation and provide support for our military forces and security efforts all over the world. ERDC is home to one of the world’s super computers.
Nearly 85 acres remain to develop at the Ceres Research and Industrial Interplex located 10 miles east of Vicksburg. Another business that came about because of the river is gaming. Four Riverboat casinos operate in Vicksburg and together employ over 1,500 individuals. With casino visitors and other tourists, the hotel/motel industries and restaurants have flourished. Business is booming in Vicksburg!
