The Historic Downtown Clinton Square District

The Historic Downtown Clinton Square District, the largest downtown square in Missouri, provides a day’s worth of shopping entertainment, for both visitors and area residents. Lining up along twelve square blocks, restored Victorian-era buildings and 20th-century structures house more than 150 retail and service businesses.

Whether shopping for the latest fashions or a house full of furniture, folks find just what they need in stores along the square. Gift and antique shops, specialty stores, jewelry boutiques, and home-decorating and garden centers supply a wonderful array of merchandise, while accountants, doctors, banks, insurance professionals, and lawyers fulfill the day-to-day needs of area residents. During the holiday season the square sparkles with thousands of lights and a number of Santa-is-coming celebrations. Architectural treasures abound on the downtown square.

The Henry County Courthouse was built in 1893, and an 1886 train depot now houses The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce. Completed in 1886 as a distribution center for beer, the Anheuser Busch Building is home to the Henry County Museum. Within Clinton’s borders, six other shopping centers – Cedar Wood, Eastgate, Plaza, and Truman Lake Shopping Centers,Towncreek Plaza, and Clinton Corners – provide convenient stops for groceries, hardware, housewares, and apparel.
