Relaxation & Fun
Opportunities for relaxation and fun are plentiful in the area. Sunset Hills has over 80 acres of park ground and maintains four recreational areas for the enjoyment of its residents. The City’s largest recreational area, Watson Trail Park, is located on West Watson Road, just west of South Lindbergh.
This park mixes just the right blend of undisturbed natural beauty and open, passive areas for everyone to enjoy. Tennis courts, volleyball areas, a municipal pool, nature trails, playgrounds, a 9-hole disc golf course, fishing lake and picnic shelters are all located here. The newest of the Sunset Hills parks is Minnie HaHa Park which was dedicated the summer of 2005 and overlooks the bluffs of the Meramec River. Minnie HaHa offers nature lovers walking trails, an observation deck, and picnic areas.
The City of Crestwood has over 115 acres dedicated to parks, the largest of which is Whitecliff Park. In 1971 the Crestwood Board of Aldermen realized that an old abandoned quarry adjacent to a small eight-acre park was a treasure to preserve. That quarry is now part of the 85-acre Whitecliff Park. The city has been very careful to preserve 40 wooded acres of the park to provide a passive oasis in the midst of a bustling community of both neighborhoods and thriving retail areas.
Whitecliff offers the Crestwood Community Center, a 22,000 sq. ft. center that includes a gymnasium, fitness room, meeting rooms, dance gym, two racquetball courts, and administrative offices. Whitecliff Park is also where the new Crestwood Aquatic Center is located. The Center includes a large lap pool, lily pad challenge area, giant slide, zero depth beach entry area, lazy river with inner tubes, and a two level children’s play pool with water falls and other play features.
Both cities offer residents a vast selection of recreational and fitness programs to fit all needs. Whether looking for heavy-duty recreation or a simple walk in the park, visitors and residents alike have no problem finding it in the Crestwood-Sunset Hills area.
