The Creve Coeur area is home to St. Louis County’s largest medical facilities: St. John’s Mercy Medical Center and Missouri Baptist Medical Center on Ballas Road, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital on Olive Boulevard and St. Luke’s Hospital on Woods Mill Road. Additionally, two premier medical research centers, Saint Louis University and Washington University, are within a 20-minute drive.

Area medical centers have demonstrated a commitment to continued growth and investment in the local community. St. John’s Mercy Medical Center is in the midst of a multi-year, $500 million redevelopment of its 73-acre campus including the David C. Pratt Cancer Center that opened in 2003, the addition of two floors of all private rooms for maternity patients in 2004, and in 2006 a new Heart Hospital housing comprehensive cardiac services, a new emergency department with St. Louis County’s only Level I trauma center and a dedicated pediatric emergency room. A new nine-level patient tower opening in 2010 will feature modern, private rooms for patients in a variety of medical specialties including children in the St. John’s Mercy Children’s Hospital.

Missouri Baptist

Within the past four years the hospital’s campus has undergone quite extensive renovations. In 2008-2009 alone, more than $17 million will be invested in the campus for advances such as a new 64-slice CT scanner, adding a Cardiac Monitoring Unit and opening a new location for Siteman Cancer Center. In addition, they recently built a new emergency department, renovated each patient room, updated operating rooms and modernized patient care areas, ensuring that patients have convenient access to the latest amenities and technology.

The campus sits on nearly 40 acres in the heart of Creve Coeur. The physicians and specialists practicing in the hospital’s four medical office buildings are known for their expertise in GI care, ophthalmology, cosmetic surgery, general surgery, urology, colon and rectal surgery, orthopedics, oncology and so much more. In 2008, the campus welcomed the first pediatric practice. Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is committed to offering a unique physician model that is a mix of Washington University, BJC Medical Group and private physicians; in fact, more than 179 members of our hospital's medical staff are included in the 2008 "Best Doctors in America" list.

From its humble beginnings in 1884 in the home of Dr. William Mayfield, Missouri Baptist Medical Center (MBMC) has grown into the existing campus located on Ballas Road near the intersection of I-270 and I-64/Highway 40, a facility licensed for 489 beds, with four adjacent medical office buildings.

With 1,400 physicians on staff and more than 2,500 employees, the hospital provides a full spectrum of medical and surgical services, with specialization in cardiac and vascular services, oncology, ortho/neuro/spine, gastroenterology and obstetrics.

In fact, to ensure that the healthcare needs of the community are continually being met, MBMC recently completed an addition to the hospital that houses a new emergency department and many of the clinical services mentioned above. The national healthcare spotlight shone on MBMC in 2002, when it was named the first-ever recipient of the American Hospital “Quest for Quality” Prize by the American Hospital Association. The honor recognized MBMC for its leadership and innovation inpatient care quality, safety and commitment.

The high-quality, skilled care nursing center, Delmar Gardens of Creve Coeur, provides exceptional care for area elderly residents needing residential care. Creve Coeur is also home to many medical professionals and specialists, as well as several surgery centers and diagnostic clinics.
