DeSoto is located in the southern portion of Jefferson County, Missouris fifth largest county by population. DeSoto and the surrounding area enjoy a rural setting, which are only minutes away from several regional shopping centers, interstate highways and major entertainment centers. The City had been nicknamed the "Fountain City" because of its many artesian wells. Water from the artesian wells and springs in the area was bottled and sent to the World Fair of 1904 in St. Louis. The older parts of the City are located along the Union Pacific Railroad line in the bottom land area along the Joachim Creek. The City of DeSoto maintains a high quality of life with wonderful homes, 10 city parks, a vital business community, restaurants and shops. Neighborhoods contain both old and new; DeSoto offers homes on the National Register of Historic Places as well as new homes in growing subdivisions. Its rich history and proud heritage are just two reasons why DeSoto now considers itself the "City of Pride." We encourage you to see for yourself. Sincerely,
