Dear Friends:

Congratulations as you celebrate the Bicentennial of DeSoto, Missiouri, a community that has played an important role in the history of our area and the entire state.

The entrepreneurial spirit of its founders and early residents helped the fledging town grow from a single cabin in 1803 into a railroad center by the turn of the 19th century. From its earliest days, DeSoto has been a future-oriented community whose pioneering spirit is especially appropriate to the opportunities and challenges arising daily in our new economy.

DeSoto has much of which to be proud. Being designated "All American" city twice, and being named as the poplutation center of the United States in 1980 are only a few. But the people of DeSoto, who embody the great spirit of its Founding Fathers, are DeSoto’s greatest resource and the source of its pride.

I am proud to represent DeSoto in the United States Congress, and I wish you all continued success in the years ahead.
