Established in 1952, Mineral Area Regional Medical Center (MARMC) is hailed as an excellent source of healthcare in the Farmington area. Currently equipped with 135 beds and a multitude of knowledgeable physicians, MARMC provides an array of medical services, including cardiac care, cardiopulmonary/respiratory, laboratory, labor/delivery/ nursery, emergency services, GI/endoscopy, home health, imaging, rehabilitation, women’s services, surgery and the Sleep Center. Community education is also a feature at MARMC.

Mineral Area Regional Medical Center

The hospital’s emergency room was recently expanded, affording a modern 12,500-square-foot facility boasting a Level III Trauma Center designation. The ER is stocked with the latest technology and services, including a dedicated radiology room and CT scanner. The Emergency Department wait times are some of the lowest in the region and nearly half of the national average. MARMC continues to supply area residents with high-caliber care. In 2006 alone, 21,313 patients visited the Emergency Room; 2,932 were admitted as inpatients; 87,078 were admitted as outpatients; and nearly 4,000 surgical cases were performed.

In addition, the medical center has more than 120 primary care and specialty physicians on staff, providing a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. MARMC has outreach facilities in Bonne Terre, Park Hills, Pilot Knob and Farmington to meet the healthcare needs of the whole community.

Parkland Health Center - Farmington

Parkland Health Center was established with the 1991 merger between two former independent community hospitals: Farmington Community Hospital and Bonne Terre Hospital. The center has two facilities in St. Francois County, offering primary care, full inpatient and outpatient services and 24-hour emergency services. Part of BJC HealthCare and affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, Parkland Health Center-Farmington is 130-bed, full-service medical facility located in Farmington. Specialized care is available in pediatrics, laboratory and radiology, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical therapy, and maternity. Parkland’s radiology department offers diagnostic radiology, ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine, CT scan, PET scan, special procedures and echocardiography.

Parkland Health Center is extremely involved in the community, assisting with a number of community events and having an active presence in local chambers of commerce. Parkland also hosts several large annual educational events including Seeds of Wisdom, a health event for women, Senior Health and Fitness, which is geared toward older adults, and Star Trackers, which focuses on a healthy lifestyle for families.

Fostering wellness in the area since 1957, patients can find an array of medical services through Jefferson Memorial Hospital in nearby Crystal City. The Cancer Center, Deles Heart and Vascular Center, Image Center, Rehabilitation Center, Wound Care Center and a fully staffed emergency room are coupled with behavioral health, laboratory, maternity, medical imaging, occupational medicine, surgery and women’s services.

The Surgery Center of Farmington, established in 1999, is an outpatient facility where more than 4,000 outpatient surgeries are performed each year. Licensed by the state of Missouri Department of Health and certified by Medicare, the practice specializes in eye surgery, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedic procedures, urologic surgery, podiatric surgery, ear/nose/throat surgery and pain management.

Owned by the State of Missouri and operated by the Department of Mental Health, the Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center (SEMMHC) is comprised of a professional staff of psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, professional counselors, clinical social workers, therapeutic recreational specialists and program supervisors — among other members. The facility is equipped with 54 beds for short-term care (an average of five to seven days), 98 beds for long-term care; and 20 beds for developmental disabilities/mental illness services.
