Government
Farmington is proud of its progressive governing voice, which ensures a high quality of life for all residents. The community’s City Council is comprised of a mayor, eight councilpersons in four wards and a city counselor. Several departments lie within local government, all working toward the betterment of community life, now and in the future.
Public Safety
Staffed with 26 full-time contracted police officers, one reserve officer, six communications officers, three civilian personnel and one volunteer chaplain, the City of Farmington Police Department is dedicated to the safety of local and surrounding residents. Furthermore, two School Resource Officers (SROs) work within the Farmington R-7 School District, providing students with a number of educational programs, including the esteemed D.A.R.E. program.
Ten full-time firefighters and 20 part-time firefighters make up the City of Farmington Fire Department. Services rendered by the department include fire response, emergency medical care, hazardous materials, search and rescue procedures, safety inspections and educational fire safety programs — among others.
In addition, the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department plays a role in public safety, with the sheriff heading up a staff of detectives, road officers, K-9 patrol, process servers and court bailiffs.
