Dellwood

graphicDellwood was incorporated as a village in 1951, then as a 4th class city in 1954. It is believed that Dellwood got its name as a reference to a Dell in the Woods, referring to the area near the intersection of Chambers Road and West Florissant. The city motto is "Crossroads of North County." The city flower is the marigold.

Just over one square mile in size, Dellwood has a population of 5,245 people. It straddles W. Florissant Avenue, just to the south of I-270. W. Florissant Avenue and Chambers Road are the community’s major thoroughfares. I-70 is easy to access from Dellwood. Dellwood has three schools districts that educate its residents: Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant, and Riverview Gardens. Dellwood has an outdoor pool, indoor soccer area and two parks that comprise over thirty acres of land for your enjoyment. There is only one church in Dellwood, Northminister Presbyterian, but there are numerous churches in the surrounding area serving many different religious denominations. Dellwood’s crime rate is very low. Dellwood is served by its own seventeen- member Police Department and has an active Neighborhood Watch Program. Dellwood has its own public works department which oversees street maintenance and snow removal for the City.
