Poplar Bluff is a major medical hub and has three acute-care hospitals and a number of specialists.Together, the three hospitals have a total of 487 beds, employ nearly 2,000 people and form a comprehensive network that is able to treat all health issues.

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is a facility housing 16 acute medicine care beds and a 40-bed Extended Care Unit. The Extended Care program provides long-term and respite care in addition to the contract nursing home program. The Center provides primary care to the nearly 50,000 veterans who live in the 24-county service area through its four outpatient clinics. Specialty clinics include urology, gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedics, audiology, optometry and dental.
