Letter from the Mayor

Welcome

The Richmond Heights City Council and I welcome you to our City. It is truly a great place to call “home” — and it’s just as great a place to visit for work, shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation.

“Progress With Tradition” is the tag line attached to our City logo. We believe the phrase summarizes the very nature of our community and our overall approach to growth.

With the year 2008 now in full swing and our Centennial anniversary on the horizon, I’m confident that the tag line has never been more fitting than it is now. Richmond Heights is the scene of numerous activities and developments — recently completed and now in progress — that are generating an almost palpable sense of excitement and anticipation.

New construction shows that developers are confident in the City’s future. Work on several projects that have been on the drawing board has actually started this year. Among them are:

• Phase II of The Boulevard-Saint Louis: Located on the east side of Brentwood Boulevard, between Galleria Parkway and Interstate 64, this multimillion-dollar project will continue the European community feel of The Boulevard-Phase I. The second phase will include a new hotel, new restaurants and additional retail. Pace Properties of St. Louis is the developer for this project.

• University Village: This exciting, two-hotel project on the southeast corner of Clayton Road and Brentwood Boulevard will include a 243-room Westin Hotel, a 158-room Homewood Suites by Hilton and a 40,000-square-foot retail building. This mixed-use development will also include upgrades to the 273,000-square-foot University Club Tower at 1034 S. Brentwood Boulevard, an 8,000-square-foot restaurant with outdoor seating and two parking garages that will be able to handle a total of 463 vehicles. This project is being jointly developed by a partnership composed of the Lionstone Group; the Sansone Group and EQUIS Hospitality Management, LLC.

• Pinnacle Square: Located just north of The New I-64, along the east side of Brentwood Boulevard, this project will complete the redevelopment of the East Brentwood Area in Richmond Heights. Along with an outdoor dining/seating area and a fountain feature, the project will include 35,000 square feet of retail space in two separate buildings. When completed, Pinnacle Square will complement Phase II of The Boulevard. The project is being developed by the Abrams Rothman Brentwood Partnership, L.P.

• Hadley Heights-Hadley Center: We hope to break ground for this mixed-use development project within a very short time. This project, located south of I-64 and Dale Avenue, east of Hanley Road, west of Laclede Station Road and north of West Bruno Avenue, will include single-family homes, condos, villas and a retail component.

These and other projects do more than help build the local municipal economy that enables us to provide our residents with excellent municipal services. They are a part of what draws people to our community from around the region, the state, the nation and, yes, even from around the world. So with the construction of new hotels in our City, we expect to see the scope of our community’s interaction with the world around us grow through the hospitality industry.

Our prime location at the confluence of Interstates 64 and 170, along with a MetroLink station at Galleria Parkway and I-170, gives us easy access to every major feature and attraction in the vicinity of the contemporary yet historic St. Louis County. This includes St. Louis International Airport, downtown St. Louis and its riverfront attractions, Forest Park, the St. Louis County government headquarters in nearby Clayton, quality health-care providers, several universities and colleges and our own Saint Louis Galleria — the region’s premier shopping venue. By 2010, Nordstrom’s — the créme de la créme among department stores — will be among the Galleria’s line-up of premier shopping venues.

For the record — construction of the New I-64 is now in high gear, and our residents and visitors are finding that the highway work is no great hindrance to visiting the area. Please visit www.midmetro4.com to find special deals from area retailers and detailed information about travel to and from the area through our special partnership with neighboring, adjacent communities.

In the pages of this book, you will find many examples of the “tradition” component to our tag line, among them:

• A diverse population of nearly 10,000 people from all walks of life.

• A wide array of well-maintained, attractive homes in established neighborhoods in one of the most desirable communities in St. Louis County.

• THE HEIGHTS: Richmond Heights Community Center and Memorial Library is an award-winning facility that includes meeting rooms, an indoor aquatics center, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a comprehensive library.

• Desirable city services that range from 24-hour police, fire and emergency medical service and a responsive public works department to curbside solid waste pickups and a mandatory recycling program. The community also has an enviable fall leaf vacuuming program and a highly trained staff of plan reviewers and building inspectors.

• Well-maintained streets and sidewalks.

• Quality public and private schools.

Clearly, everything we do is aimed at ensuring the physical viability and the future fiscal standing of our City while simultaneously maintaining the traditional character of our family neighborhoods.

So if you’re just passing through, we invite you to visit us often. Who knows? You might just want to engage a qualified Richmond Heights realtor so you can find just the right spot so you can stay awhile!

Best Wishes,
Mayor James Beck
