The Waynesville R-VI School District serves students from Waynesville, St. Robert, the Fort Leonard Wood military post, as well as a large rural area. Approximately 60 percent of its student population is composed of military dependents, resulting in a mobile community and unique student body with extensive travel experience and varying ethnic and social viewpoints. The Waynesville School District includes seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one area technical academy.

Modest class sizes are maintained by high quality, caring teachers. The Waynesville School District combines the advantages of a larger school district with the atmosphere of a smaller school district, ensuring that every student receives personal attention and has access to the educational resources he or she needs. Students are assigned to an individual building according to their place of residence, and students living more than a mile from their assigned school are transported by bus. Each school provides health service by a school nurse, guidance and counseling services, school-based social workers and summer school; the elementary schools provide all-day kindergarten programs. A variety of extracurricular activities, clubs and organizations allow students to cultivate their talents or explore new avenues of learning.

Waynesville High School is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the district has been fully accredited with Distinction in Performance by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Thayer Elementary was selected as one of the eight semi-finalists in the 1990 U.S. Department of Education Elementary School Recognition Program; Waynesville and Wood Middle Schools were both candidates in the Missouri Blue Ribbon School Program. The area also offers the alternative of a Christian education.

The Colleges of the Truman Education Center

On Fort Leonard Wood, there are six colleges and universities offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees at highly competitive prices. Classes are offered in various formats: during the day, in the evening, on Saturdays and even over the Internet. Some colleges use the traditional 16-week semester, others the accelerated eight or nine-week term. All colleges on Fort Leonard Wood are regionally accredited.

The admission requirement for the majority of the resident colleges is a high school diploma or GED. Financial aid is available for eligible students. Central Texas College, Columbia College, Drury University, Park University and Webster University are on the leading edge of technology by offering distance-learning courses over the Internet. All colleges distinguish themselves by their small class sizes, the average class having fewer than twenty students. All courses are taught by qualified professors and instructors, not graduate teaching assistants. At the Truman Education Center, you'll be able to fulfill your goal of obtaining a college degree.
