The Waynesville/St.Robert area is situated in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, and because of its remarkable geography is a veritable sportsman's heaven. Inhale the fragrance of the pristine woods while watching your child catch his or her first fish, or experience the explosion of fall colors unique to this region of the United States. Swim or canoe in our rivers and lakes, spelunk in the area's historical caves, ride horseback through the Ozark woods or hike along the mountainous terrain. The area has everything necessary to enjoy an active (or relaxed!) lifestyle.

Both cold and warm water fisheries abound in and around Waynesville and St. Robert. The largest river in Pulaski County is the Gasconade, with nearly 30 miles of prime warm water species to test the limits of your tackle. If breathtaking scenery is your desire, float down the Big Piney with its natural limestone bluffs and cascading waters. An area of the Big Piney has been designated a small-mouth bass trophy area. The two rivers wind their way through a variety of geographical formations, ranging from low-lying river bottom farms to towering bluffs cut from limestone deposited millions of years ago. There are several smaller streams such as the Little Piney and Roubidoux Creek, which runs through the heart of downtown Waynesville, and small lakes and ponds where catfish, crappie, bluegill and bass abound.

If your favorite form of recreation is stalking the wild game in the serene settings of the Ozark woods, most of Pulaski County is within the borders of the Mark Twain National Forest. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrels, raccoon, opossums, rabbit and fox. While there are a number of protected species in Missouri, most small game, including coyote, can be hunted at various times throughout the year. Frog gigging, turtle hunting and waterfowl make up additional hunting opportunities for the sports enthusiast.

Pulaski County Outfitters Association provides canoeing, rafting, tubing, kayaking and Jon Boats for area residents and visitors. Camping and resorts along the Gasconade River abound. Waynesville's city parks offer picnic facilities, barbecue grills, a city pool, new covered pavilions, a fishing area with handicapped accessible dock, and a football area. St. Robert's city park complex, adjacent to the Community Center, offers a softball field, playground and pavilion as well as picnic areas and barbecue pits.
