On behalf of the over 30,000 residents of Kearney, we want to say welcome!
Whether you are stopping by for a short stay, to see the beautiful cranes, visit our University, or thinking of making Kearney home, we hope you enjoy your visit.
Kearney is a prosperous, clean and friendly community. We are extremely proud of the industries that make us great, Agriculture, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Education, Business and Travel & Tourism. Centrally located in the beautiful state of Nebraska, Kearney offers big city amenities with small town ease.
As the Sandhill Crane Capital of the World, we are proud of the millions of years that the cranes have stopped to rest in our unique habitat on their migration north in the spring and south in the fall. We are working hard to maintain this habitat so that this migration will continue for millions of years more. There are many cultural activities that you will want to include in your visit: the Museum of Nebraska Art, Trails and Rails Museum and the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument. The monument celebrates the human migration from east to west through Nebraska via the Morman, Oregon and California Trails.

The Kearney community is a vibrant and growing community, currently building two new elementary schools, and expanding two schools. The recent completion of the Petersen Sr. Activity Center, a new hospital, and new addition to Good Samaritan Hospital, a new conference center and a new multi-purpose building on the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
Activities of every kind are available in Kearney, including a shooting range, hike and bike trails, a large family YMCA and a city sport and recreation department keeping all residents active and involved.
Kearney also has many unique shopping experiences. Downtown Kearney on the Bricks is a blend of home décor, shoes & apparel, furniture, western wear, coffee shops, restaurants and night life. At the north end of town you will find a bustling mall with anchor stores, Herberger’s, JCPenney, The Buckle, GAP and Old Navy, complemented closely by Target, Walmart and K-mart.
So, whatever brings you to our city, Welcome! Stay as long as you can and come back often!
