Good Samaritan Hospital recently expanded its NICU into a 10,352-square-foot space on its second floor. The new unit is built around the idea that families whose babies need a higher level of care should have their own private space. That space features nine new “personal NICU” rooms designed to promote a baby’s growth and wellness through special lighting, acoustics and alarm systems that accommodate the unique developmental needs of premature, sick and multiple-birth infants while creating a private bonding space for the family.
In the summer of 2012, GSH will open a 64,000-square-foot expansion that includes the Ron and Carol Cope Heart Center. The Heart Center will feature new cardiac catheterization labs, a full non-invasive cardiovascular testing area and operating rooms equipped and sized for open heart surgery. The expansion will also create new operating rooms, new endoscopy suites, a new surgery gathering area for families, hallways that are more convenient for visitors, a new dining room and new kitchen.
