More than a million people each year take advantage of all that Lincoln has to offer, making tourism Nebraska's third highest source of revenue from outside of the state.

One of the most popular spots to visit is the Historic Haymarket District. This beautifully restored turn-of-the-century area features a number of restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, specialty shops, nightspots, and art galleries as well as a micro-brewery. Located nearby is Iron Horse Park, which pays tribute to the city's railroad heritage with a three-dimensional "Iron Horse" brick mural depicting the first locomotive to cross the prairie.

Another popular attraction is the State Capitol, which was constructed between 1922 and 1932. Towering 400 feet into the sky, the architecturally significant structure includes four interior courtyards and an observation deck. Walk the facility on your own or join in on one of the 30-minute tours that are offered year-round.

Traveling with children or looking for a fun family outing? The new and improved Lincoln Children's Museum has tripled the space available for its exceptional interactive exhibits. Children of all ages gain hands-on learning experiences through featured exhibits such as the three-story apple tree, hot air balloons and a real airplane.

The Folsom's Children's Zoo & Botanical Gardens has more than 300 animals, including baboons, leopards, river otters and New Guinea singing dogs, who live among beautiful gardens that feature 50 types of trees.

The Museum of Nebraska History offers outstanding exhibits of the state's prehistoric and historic Native American cultures of the Great Plains as well as the lives of the Euro-American pioneer settlers.

Other historical landmarks in Lincoln are the home of William Jennings Bryan, a noted statesman from Nebraska, and the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test & Power Museum, with exhibits of machines from early hand tools to modern day tractors. The Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Museum features replicas of Alexander Graham Bell's original telephone designs, early operator switchboards, and examples of antique telephones.

The Hyde Memorial Observatory, located in Holmes Park, is open to the public every Saturday year-round. The observatory, which is staffed by volunteers, was built, furnished and is operated entirely by donations.

Downtown Lincoln hosts a myriad of festivals and fairs throughout the year. July Jamm is a three-day extravaganza of jazz and blues combined with a vast selection of food, art and activities.
