Choosing Omaha
Kate Zagozda, 23
Senior Consultant, Booz Allen Hamilton
Kate Zagozda has found a way to work and live in the city she loves.
The recipient of a Scott Scholarship and a University of Nebraska Regent’s Scholarship, Zagozda obtained a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Information Science and Technology, a part of The Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI).
Internships are a key facet of the integration of the business community as partners at PKI. Prior to graduation, Zagozda obtained an internship with Booz Allen Hamilton, a global strategy and technology consulting firm serving clients on six continents.
After receiving her degree, she became a full-time consultant at Booz Allen and was soon promoted to a senior consultant. She says her success is due to her solid educational background and strong work ethic. “The business community makes a concerted effort to keep young professionals in Omaha by seeking them out,” she says.
Zagozda purchased one of the many new condos being developed downtown. “The growth throughout Omaha shows young professionals that they live and work in a place that continues to progress,” she says.
While fond of Omaha, she also enjoys traveling. “Omaha’s low cost of living provides me with the extra income to travel. Eppley Airfield allows me to fly to places like Warsaw, Poland, with only one stop in Chicago.”
Locally, Zagozda participates in the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce Young Professional’s Council and All About Omaha. These activities afford networking opportunities with a diverse group of young professionals.
“Omaha is small enough to stay connected and large enough to continue to make new contacts,” she says. “I really take advantage of the cultural calendar provided by the Young Professionals Council. It is a great tool to find things to do on the weekends.”
