From world-class arts and attractions to championship sporting events, Greater Omaha has something for everyone. The city and region are also recognized for their support of artists, musicians and all forms of creativity.
The Old Market historic area has a thriving artists’ community. Internationally known artist and sculptor Jun Kaneko has a massive studio here. Each year, hundreds of artists from around the world submit their work and ideas to the highly regarded residency program of the nearby Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.
Omaha Performing Arts, under the leadership of its president, Joan Squires, manages the stately Orpheum Theater and Holland Performing Arts Center. The beautiful Orpheum Theater sets the stage for Opera Omaha, presenting many world premier productions, and is the home of the Broadway Across America series.

The Omaha Symphony, under the musical direction of Thomas Wilkins, enjoys the stunning acoustics of the Holland Performing Arts Center. A short stroll away, big-name concerts and sporting events attract thousands at Qwest Center Omaha.
The Omaha Community Playhouse leads a star-studded roster of imaginative community theater venues. Independent films have found a home at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater.
Longtime attractions like Boys Town, the Omaha Children’s Museum, the Strategic Air and Space Museum, Love’s Jazz & Arts Center, El Museo Latino and world-renowned Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo draw crowds, as do the collections of the Joslyn Art Museum and The Durham Museum, whose buildings themselves are works of art.

In the summertime, free outdoor events include the Playing With Fire music series at Lewis and Clark Landing along the Missouri River, the downtown Summer Arts Festival and Jazz on the Green on the lawn of the Joslyn Art Museum. In May, the Cinco de Mayo parade fills the streets in South Omaha, while in late September, the River City Roundup Heritage Parade ropes ’em in downtown.
This year’s River City Roundup will feature the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour’s Justin Championships, one of the biggest events of the professional rodeo season. The Omaha rodeo, which will be broadcast on ESPN, will determine qualifiers for the $5.65 million Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.
That’s not all. We have strawberry patches in the spring, summertime farmers’ markets, pumpkin patches in the fall, ice skating in the winter, food and wine festivals, and more fireworks displays and holiday lights than you can count.
