Many community efforts and events are made possible through a strong force of dedicated volunteers. Claremonts high level of community spirit is evidenced by the greatest level of contributions ever raised in a New Hampshire community toward the Main Street Claremont revitalization program. High School Alumni Association, with approximately 8,000 members, is the
oldest active association of its kind in the United States. As one of the nations most intact nineteenth century districts, Claremonts downtown was the first Multiple Use Resource District (Historic District) to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. Claremont is home to the oldest Roman Catholic and Episcopal churches in New Hampshire, Old St. Mary and Union Episcopal; both are still in use. A variety of ethnic cultures, prevalent in Claremonts historical citizenry, continue today through several places of worship within the community.
