Thank you for considering the Greater Claremont area as a place to live and do business! Theresa Novak Chabot FACTS ABOUT CLAREMONT Claremont is a family community, offering safe streets, excellent public and parochial schools, and many strong youth sports programs. Many community efforts and events are made possible through a strong force of dedicated volunteers. Claremonts high level of community spirit is evidenced by the greatest level of contributions ever raised in a New Hampshire community toward the Main Street Claremont revitalization program. The Stevens
High School Alumni Association, with approximately 8,000 members, is the
oldest active association of its kind in the United States. As one of the nations most intact nineteenth century districts, Claremonts downtown was the first Multiple Use Resource District (Historic District) to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. Claremont is home to the oldest Roman Catholic and Episcopal churches in New Hampshire, Old St. Mary and Union Episcopal; both are still in use. A variety of ethnic cultures, prevalent in Claremonts historical citizenry, continue today through several places of worship within the community. If youre interested in history, the outdoors, the arts, or sports, youve come to the right place. The city of Claremont is located in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley on the New Hampshire-Vermont border. The Greater Claremont region is as rural or as urban as you want it to be. Agriculture still plays a major role in Sullivan County life, and the landscape in and around Claremont features heavily wooded hills and lakes, with streams and rivers that support an abundant variety of wildlife. The spectacular backdrop of Mount Ascutney serves as a constant reminder that Claremont is someplace special, yet youre just a two hour drive from the bright lights of Boston, three hours from romantic Montreal, and four-and-a-half hours from New York City.
