Hanover Shopping

downtown

They don’t make downtowns like Hanover anymore. Stroll down Main Street, and you’ll find historic retailers like the Dartmouth Bookstore, which features everything from the latest John Grisham novel to physics texts and gifts, to the Dartmouth Co-Op, where every manner of Dartmouth gift is available. Clothing to crafts, stationery to sporting goods, bagels to bytes, jewelry to jawbreakers, copy paper to newspapers, home furnishings to hardware, Hanover has it all.

There are local banks and national banks, a choice of real estate and insurance agents, barbers and stylists. There are convenience stores where you can grab a loaf of bread and the Hanover Consumer Co-Op, which has two full grocery stores that feature all the big brands you know and the little brands you requested as well as a convenience store/gas station. Kitchen wares, laundry services, musical instruments and recordings, opticians and orthodontists and pharmacies are some of what is within walking distance of Main Street.

shopping

Cross the river to find Norwich Square and shops offering everything from funky shoes and gifts to a good book or a favorite spirit. Nearby, you’ll find The Baker’s Store at King Arthur Flour, a nationally recognized, always inviting place to visit.

Visit the area in July and enjoy the Hanover StreetFest or the Old Fashioned Fourth of July on “The Green,” or an evening at the Opera. Come in December and cap a day’s shopping with a look at local artists works during the Arts Festival, grab a bite to eat at the Hanover Inn, The Orient or Carpaccio Ristorante Italiano and enjoy any one of the many performances including the traditional Christmas Mystery at Rollins Chapel. We say, “Hanover is where New England comes alive.”
