Rochester’s Downtown
One way Rochester citizens demonstrate their civic pride is through the volunteer organization called the Community Organization for Rochester Enhancement (CORE).
Seldom are cities so fortunate as to see business leaders, elected officials, governmental officials and community members come together to ensure a bright future in their own downtown.
CORE was formed in October 2003 and has been charged by the City of Rochester with a mission to implement the Downtown Master Plan by promoting and taking action to improve the economic, visual, and social aspects of the city core. Guided by the Stewardship Committee, several subcommittees work diligently to help businesses succeed and citizens enjoy their own community.
Successes have been abundant since the inception of CORE with two hallmark events being the annual Lantern Parade and the downtown celebration called Moonlight Madness. These events and many others bring thousands of residents into the downtown area to celebrate all that Rochester has to offer.
