Rochester Fairs and Festivals

Rochester celebrates the seasons beginning with a Lilac Family Fun Festival in the spring to promote goodwill among residents and businesses in the city providing a variety of day-long activities and entertainment for the family and a showcase of organizations in Rochester.

Downtown Rochester celebrates the summer providing fun-filled activities including merchant specials, sidewalk sales, giveaways, musical entertainment, and a variety of children’s activities.

A Summer Arts Festival takes place in conjunction with the Rochester Opera House including outdoor concerts at the Rochester Commons. A blazing Fourth of July celebration complete with family activities and fireworks is held in honor of Independence Day.

The fall features the Rochester Fair, an agricultural fair complete with food and entertainment held annually in September. The Rochester Fair, now in its 128th year, is the oldest fair in New Hampshire and attracts approximately 150,000 people. This eight-day event features a complete midway of games, rides and attractions.

An exhibition building showcases art, crafts, livestock, and 4-H on display. Educational tours are provided to schools and youth groups. A Victorian grandstand with harness racing is on hand and an entertainment center that hosts talent and variety shows are all part of the fair.

In winter, Rochester rings in the holiday season with a spectacular Holiday Parade complete with floats, VIPs, marching bands and more. The parade travels from the Spaulding High School through downtown Rochester to the Rochester Commons.

The Rochester Recreation, Arena & Youth Services (RAYS), Waste Management & Isinglass River Local Advisory Committee sponsor a Winter Fest – a day of FREE outdoor activities including dog sled rides, snowmobile display, ice skating, groomed trails for snow shoeing or cross-country skiing and bonfire. The event is held at the Isinglass Recreational Area, a 100-acre wood opened year round to the public that has groomed trails leading to the Isinglass River.
