Education

Opportunities to receive choice education in the Atlantic City region are abundant, with area facilities offering everything from fundamental daycare and preschool classes up through graduate and doctoral degrees.

A number of childcare facilities operate throughout Atlantic City and its surrounding communities, with many offering connections with local preschool and elementary schools.

Both public and private K-12 facilities can be accessed here. A wealth of public schools are spread throughout Atlantic County, including a dozen serving students of Atlantic City. Alternatives to the public school system are also prevalent, with a handful of private parochial institutions and charter schools readily available. For those students in need of special educational services, there are plenty of options in the greater Atlantic City area.

The Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT), located in nearby Mays Landing, is one of the top comprehensive technical educational facilities in the area. ACIT works closely with several county high schools, offering students a chance to enroll in its Academy and shared-time programs. Plus, ACIT offers technical programs for adults through its Evening School. Students have access to four Academy and 17 career programs at ACIT.

Upon graduation of high school, the majority of Atlantic City students choose to continue the educational path to college. For those who wish to stay close to home, Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) is a prime choice. This two-year public college offers a main campus in Mays Landing, with a branch within Atlantic City. Thousands of students each year take advantage of ACCC’s offerings, which includes more than 40 transfer and career degree programs—most notable programs include casino education and culinary arts.

Students interested in attending a four-year institution in the area can access the 1,600-acre Pomona campus of Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. This award-winning educational resource holds the distinction as the state’s sole public college to be nationally ranked as a “selective liberal arts college.” Stockton College’s 7,353 students (as of fall 2007) fully take advantage of a score of both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, along with its exceptional array of athletics, clubs and organizations.

There are a host of further options for higher education through a number of extension campuses located in and around Atlantic City, plus a score of additional colleges and universities located throughout New Jersey.
