Great Recreation is a Walk in the Park

Brick Township, NJ Chamber of Commerce

Brick Township’s large variety of year-round recreational activities complements the dynamic family lifestyles embracing its neighborhoods. In addition to the obvious leisure time advantages that come with a Jersey Shore location, Brick residents enjoy a wealth of never-ending family fun.

The Township’s Recreation Department takes an all-inclusive approach in coordinating its programs. Throughout the seasons, for example, an exciting line-up of recreational and athletic programs is made available for residents ages one and up. Toddlers may participate in conveniently scheduled playgroups at which they, along with their parents, create craft projects and express themselves creatively through songs. Preschoolers to 10-year-olds enjoy supervised tumbling and aerobics play groups.

Supplemental educational programs — such as “Jump Start” at age 4 — prepare children for their many years as students. Several other early childhood programs are available and refined with each passing year.

Traditional sports like soccer, basketball, bowling and baseball take place at nearby venues and field complexes. The very popular Drum Point Sports Complex in Brick has expanded to include a skate park, more soccer fields and an irrigation system, among other enhancements. Known throughout New Jersey is a privately owned skating facility that offers instructional and competitive ice hockey — a popular youth sport in town — as well as figure skating.

A recent addition to Township programs is the Brick Youth Club for residents under age 18, which coordinates several special events including dances, movie nights and open gyms. The enormously popular BMAC/Recreation Basketball Leagues accommodate boys and girls in grades 3 to 12.

But those sports activities — men’s basketball and softball leagues notwithstanding — are just a sampling of the comprehensive nature of the Township’s recreational roster. Swim lessons are available on a regular basis and a running club takes stride on Brick’s lively streetscapes throughout the seasons. Non-athletic activities for adults, such as poetry programs, art shows, a Garden Club and playwright group allow Brick residents to participate in their favorite leisure time activities.

When the warmer weather arrives and the outdoors beckons, many residents take to the easily accessible oceanfront and attraction-packed boardwalk in neighboring Point Pleasant Beach, while others take pleasure at the three Brick beaches on the barrier island. Others flock to the solitude of the Mantoloking seashore. Golfers tee off at the Forge Pond County Golf Course (open to the public). For some, a stroll through one of the many beautiful parks in the town is pleasurable. Nature lovers particularly enjoy the new Brick Reservoir, beautified by a community effort, where many benches and pathways provide opportunities to relax and enjoy the views.

With so much to do all of the time, it’s no wonder why Brick is among Ocean County’s most widely sought-after communities in which to live, work and play.
