A Lesson in Excellence
Brick Township takes pride in a widely respected and progressive school system that supports students with the essentials needed for an education in excellence. From its roots grow elevated standards of achievement for students at every grade level in a secure learning environment. Over the last decade, class sizes have successfully been reduced as test scores have risen. Academic programs have been added, as school buildings, grounds and athletic fields are continually being enhanced to maintain safety and comfort. Such improvements are demonstrated by the fiscal fact that — according to a New Jersey State Department of Education annual school report card — Brick Township has the lowest cost per pupil ratio in Ocean County, and the third lowest among all two-hundred-fourteen K-12 districts in the entire state.
In addition to an abundance of established athletic programs and extra curricular activities, Brick students also enjoy rewarding, ancillary learning benefits. An informative, public school TV station keeps both students and parents abreast of announcements and events. The District website, accessible from off-site locations to students, further exemplifies the innovative approach to the total learning experience put forth by Brick Township schools and residents.
The District leads the ever-present technological progress with fully networked classrooms in every school. Students are able to utilize the newest technology on a daily basis, and do so under the guidance of thoroughly proficient educators, who bring to bear a focus on learning. In addition, continual staff development and teacher research programs are keeping Brick students on the cutting edge in an ever-changing academic realm.
As the second largest school district in Ocean County, Brick Township is comprised of seven elementary schools, serving grades one through five, as well as a Primary Learning Center accommodating all preschool and kindergarten programs. Two middle schools serve grades six, seven and eight, and two high schools house students attending grades nine through twelve. After school care services (P.A.L.) can benefit working parents of elementary age children. Students interested in pursuing careers in the trades attend the Ocean County Vocational School in Brick to gain insight and expertise at their skill to apply in the working world once they graduate.
Higher educational opportunities lie in neighboring communities. These include Georgian Court University (Lakewood), a private, four-year institution offering several majors and degree levels; and Ocean County College (Toms River), a two-year, community college from where students can advance to one of New Jersey’s several, four-year state colleges or universities. This includes Kean University, which is affiliated with Ocean County College and offers degree courses and programs on its campus.
The District strives to provide the best possible learning environment for its children, and continues to take steps toward progress. Several of the elementary schools and both middle and high schools have expanded to maintain Brick’s enviable, smaller class sizes. In addition, the Township is now equipped with a new Special Education facility to assist students with disabilities.
A strong spirit of cooperation floods this Shore town. The successful partnership of superior quality teaching and administrative staff, along with sound fiscal responsibility, is at the heart of Brick Township’s unwavering tradition of putting students first.
The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation ... It’s the Scholarly Thing to Do!
The prevailing community spirit of the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce and its members is manifested in their overwhelmingly popular Educational Foundation. This extraordinary program was conceived over 10 years ago to assist deserving students in the pursuit of their dreams. Chamber members doing business in Brick believed it their duty to give back to the community in a way that would ensure lasting rewards for Township residents. Continuing education fits the bill precisely, and today, thanks to members’ countless efforts, the Educational Foundation is not only flourishing, but also expanding. Tens of thousands of scholarship dollars earmarked for both college and post-secondary vocational education have been awarded to dozens of appreciative students.
As intriguing as the program, are the means by which students are chosen for scholarship selection. Each spring, applications are sent to all Chamber members, who then copy and distribute them to their employees and children. A student’s chances for eligibility are greatly increased simply because of the employee’s contact with the business owner, who is a Chamber member. Applications are distributed throughout area high schools as well.
The Educational Foundation continues to grow with the Tree of Learning. This perpetual initiative encourages businesses and residents to make donations to the scholarship program in return for a presence on the tree, helping provide more scholarships to deserving students. It prominently and permanently is displayed in the Brick Municipal Building.
Affording residents the most life-enriching opportunities possible echoes the community spirit of the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce and its entire group of caring members.
