Location and Transportation

map

Strategically situated within Middlesex County, in the heart of central New Jersey, Metuchen is located less than two miles from a number of the state’s major arteries, which include the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, Interstate 287, U.S. Highway 1 and State Highway 27.

From Metuchen, Manhattan can be reached within a mere 25 miles southwest. What’s more, it is easy to commute to bustling New York City by train or bus, or to Newark, Trenton or nearby Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

The transit station also serves as a connection point for many local New Jersey Transit bus routes. These routes provide a connection between Metuchen and Fords, Plainfield, Perth Amboy, Raritan, Piscataway and Edison. Convenient parking and other amenities are offered for those utilizing the train station as well.

Air transportation is readily available to travelers through Newark Liberty International Airport. Located just 15 miles from Metuchen, the airport provides direct flights throughout the U.S. and the rest of North America, as well as Europe, South America and Asia. Approximately 30 million passengers are served each year through Newark Liberty, a facility that has been recognized as the fifth busiest international air gateway in the country.

Walking is another option in Metuchen. The creation of four pedestrian loop routes was made a reality through a prior grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Each route, beginning in a different section of the community, leads to the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. The trails range from 1.8 to 2.7 miles and are all marked with custom signs, directional arrows and mile markers.
