Life in Ocean City is getting up with the sun, heading outside onto the deck and taking a deep breath of salty air. The seagulls call while you sip your coffee, and the sun’s warm rays blanket your skin, preparing you for another fabulous day in this beach town.
In today’s fast-paced world, calm and relaxing moments found by the beach are something to cherish. Here in Ocean City, you won’t find traffic jams on the roads, pollution in the air or big buildings crowding the sky. The jams come from bands playing on our Music Pier, along the Boardwalk and Asbury Avenue. The air is light, fresh and filled with sun-kissed scents and laughter, and the buildings allow the sky to shine big and blue.
Big, blue pleasant skies are found all year long due to Ocean City’s situation as a barrier island off the southern coast of New Jersey. The Gulf of Mexico’s warm currents keep the weather temperate through each of the four seasons. In the winter, expect temperatures in the low 40s. Spring brings in the 60s, and fall, it’s in the mid-50s. Summer is a warm average of 80 degrees and a perfect time to hit the beach.
Though famous for its beaches, Ocean City has more to offer than its stretches of sandy shore and waves of blue ocean. This is a beach town, but also a small town full of charm, unique boutiques and tons of things to do. The Community Center houses a state-of-the-art library, historical museum, arts center, and aquatic and fitness center. The Bayside Center is an activities and educational facility for all ages. Our Boardwalk and Downtown are filled with shops, fun and food. For additional recreation there are playgrounds, public tennis courts, parks, golf courses, bike paths and even a dog park.
Ocean City is a well-rounded community of 15,000 year-round residents and 120,000 summer residents. It’s a town where you can raise your children, open that business you’ve always wanted to start or just relax on the warm soft beach with a good book.
Here you can have it all – award-winning schools, restaurants serving delicious food, high-end boutiques, cozy little shops and activities galore. Ocean City, surrounded by water and waves, salt and sand, offers something for every member of the family.
Yet, as far as Ocean City seems from life in a big city, it’s really only just a couple hours from three major East Coast hubs: Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and New York City. Plus, world-famous Atlantic City is just nine miles up the coast.
Life in this beach town is as welcoming to singles and retirees as it is to families. Ocean City’s residents and visitors alike each found something to cherish here and build a lifetime of memories upon. The pace is slow, the opportunities are plenty and the island is calling.
