Newsweek magazine listed Ocean City High School in the top five percent of high schools in the nation for the Advanced Placement courses it offers. New Jersey Monthly magazine, in an article about the state’s best schools, listed Ocean City as the highest-ranking high school in South Jersey.
Ocean City High School is state of the art. Built new for the 2004-2005 academic year and equipped with the latest technology, the school is staffed by experienced and accredited teachers. Average SAT scores exceed state averages by 16 points or more in verbal testing, math scores and writing proficiency. More than 92 percent of 11th graders scored proficient or better on the state’s language arts assessment, and 85 percent scored proficient or better on the state’s mathematic assessment. Curriculum includes varied and challenging classes such as Greek, independent living, business law and public speaking. Ocean City High School offers classes preparing students for college and classes teaching skills for their adult life.Excellence starts early in Ocean City schools. More than 85 percent of eighth graders in the Ocean City Intermediate School scored proficient or better on the state’s language arts assessment, and almost 90 percent of third graders in the primary school scored proficient or better on the state’s mathematics assessment.
Ocean City Intermediate School is one of the National Forum’s Schools to Watch, a program launched in 1999 to identify high-performance schools around the country. All Schools to Watch are academically excellent, developmentally responsive and socially equitable.
Red Raider athletic teams consistently rank among the top sports programs in the area in several different sports. The Red Raiders won the prestigious Ed Byrnes Memorial Award for being the number one athletic program in the Cape Atlantic League for the 2006-07 school year. This is the second year in a row and the eighth time this school has won this award since its inception in 1990-91.
