Ocean City Location and Transportation

Ocean City is on the edge of everything. The Atlantic City casinos are only nine miles north of Ocean City. There is a world of entertainment resources (wonderful shows, eateries and gaming venues) along the famous boardwalk in front of the casinos.

Atlantic City also boasts a terrific international airport with daily flights to and from Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Orlando, Cancun, Mexico, Jamaica, Nassau, Bahamas and loads of other amazing destinations—and it is only about a 15-minute drive away.

If you’re flying your own private plane, Ocean City has its own airport just right for small aircraft.

Ocean City is fortunate enough to not only be close to one of the two major casino hubs in America but to also be within a short drive to three of the country’s biggest cities, New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. You can be on Broadway in just a bit over two hours, see the White House in less than half a day’s drive, and be eating an authentic Philly cheesesteak in about an hour.

Just hop on the many safe roads leading to and from the island to get to any of these amazing cities.

There are four ways to get back onto the mainland: the newly built Longport bridge at the north end of the island, the 9th Street bridge, the 34th Street bridge, and the Corson’s Inlet bridge into Strathmere, the neighboring town to the south.

Ocean City is currently working to build a new bridge where the current 9th Street Bridge stands, making the causeway wider and thereby safer to everyone who uses it. Shoulders will be added as well as a bicycle lane. There will even be a spot where tourists can pull off the bridge onto a lower level, taking in the sights of the small islands in between Ocean City and Somers Point.

Prefer to take the bus? Ocean City has a historic transportation center right in the heart of town that features New Jersey Transit buses with routes all the way to Philadelphia and New York throughout the week. There is plenty of parking so you can feel at ease leaving your car and hopping on the bus whenever you please—the transportation center is open 24 hours a day all year round.
